The dedicated professionals of the 5th Operations Support Squadron (5 OSS) consistently demonstrate unwavering commitment to the 5th Bomb Wing’s mission, supporting a diverse range of critical operations. From planning and executing bomber deployments and large-scale exercises to overseeing crucial aircrew training, maintaining airfield systems, and forecasting weather, the 5 OSS serves as the backbone of air operations. Their efforts directly contribute to the wing’s readiness and its ability to project global power.

The 5 OSS played a pivotal role in the 23rd Bomb Squadron’s Guam Bomber Task Force Deployment and Re-Deployment, the planning of BAMBOO EAGLE Large Force Exercise sorties, and the execution of Surge Week where they supported the Wing in launching 42 B-52 sorties within a 3-week period. Furthermore, their proactive approach to infrastructure and equipment modernization, particularly the Radar, Airfield and Weather Systems’ fiber upgrade secured 24/7/365 launch capability and corrosion control maintenance. They performed 1,800 hours of maintenance to increase the service life of Minot’s only Air Traffic Control Radar and 7 other navigational aids vital to Safety of Flight. Aircrew Flight Equipment (AFE) boosted aircrew training with upgraded egress trainer equipment for realistic emergency simulations, while HARM processed 62 congressionally mandated incentive payments, ensuring $14K in benefits across 5BW and 91MW. The squadron’s comprehensive contributions make them a vital asset to the 5th Bomb Wing’s continued success.
