Are you a citizen of the United States, eighteen years or older, a resident of North Dakota, and a resident who has resided in the precinct/district at least thirty days immediately preceding the election (election date: June 9th, 2026)? If so, there are two (2) four-year term seats up for election on the School Board of Minot Public School District #1. The term will expire on June 30th, 2030.
This is an exciting opportunity to take part in helping shape district policies and plans! You can attend school visits and participate in meetings. You can deliberate, add your opinion, and be a part of a group of individuals striving to ensure all local students succeed, which includes our military-connected students residing in this district.
Here are three questions and answers you may have: 1. Can I have a full-time job while on the School Board? A: Yes. 2. Do I need to be employed to be on the School Board? A: No. 3. Do I get paid to be on the Minot Public School Board? A. Yes. Depending on your situation, this could be the perfect opportunity to positively contribute to Minot Public School District #1.
To apply, you must submit the following forms: Statement of Intent, North Dakota Secretary of State’s Statement of Interests (SFN 10172), and Campaign Disclosure Statement (SFN 53970) to the Minot Public Schools’ Business Manager, Ms. Laura Dokken, by Monday, April 6th, 2026 at 4:00pm. Although this is a school holiday for Minot Public Schools, the District Office will be open to accept all forms. You can also mail in the forms, but they must be received by April 6th at 4:00pm. Then, from April 11th to April 16th, 2026 at Minot City Hall, the Minot Area Chamber EDC (MACEDC) will hold candidate forums. There is more information to come on this, as the specific date for the Minot Public School Board candidate forum has not yet been determined or announced. Also, participation in the forums is not required to run for office. MACEDC staff will contact school board candidates in early April to invite their participation once the official list of candidates is finalized.
