CIVIL AIR PATROL MAGIC CITY COMPOSITE SQUADRON
The Civil Air Patrol Magic City Composite Squadron commemorated Veteran’s Day at the Minot Armed Force Reserve Center with two ceremonies that celebrated service and the enduring commitment of our community to honor, remember, and teach.
Thanks to the generosity of the Minot Area Community Foundation, the squadron cadets received a $1,500 sponsorship towards veteran wreaths for Wreaths Across America, helping to ensure that every veteran laid to rest at Rosehill Cemetery is honored this December. The check was presented by Program Director, Staci Kenney, and President, Jason Zimmerman, who also gave an inspiring talk to the teenage cadets and their families on the power of community fundraising and remembrance.
Following this meaningful gift, the evening shined a spotlight on nine of the Minot Squadron’s newest Cadets, who earned their first promotion to Cadet Airman after successfully completing the Great Start Program. Over the past 10 weeks, these young leaders have embraced lessons in followership, leadership, service, character, fitness, and drill, laying the foundation for a lifetime of civic engagement and personal growth.

Their promotion marks the achievement of the Curry Award, named after Major General John F. Curry, CAP’s first National Commander in 1941. “During World War II, civilian aviators—men and women alike—stepped forward to serve when military enlistment wasn’t an option,” explained Squadron Deputy Commander Major Ben Conlin. “Their spirit of volunteerism, patriotism, and generosity gave birth to Civil Air Patrol, a legacy that continues to inspire today’s cadets.”
The cadets of Minot’s local Civil Air Patrol are asking the community to help spread the word about Wreaths Across America. You’re encouraged to share this initiative with employees, coworkers, friends, and family. The goal is to ensure every veteran at Rosehill Cemetery is remembered with dignity and gratitude.
