National Veterans and Military Families Month – Connect with One Another

November is important, because it is officially recognized as Natonal Veterans and Military Families Month.  In fact, the President signs a proclamation each November honoring the sacrifices and contributions of service members and their families.

Around the time of this publication, two Veterans Day assemblies will be held on November 7th, 2025, at our Dakota Elementary School at 9am and North Plains Elementary School at 2pm.  At both events, our commanders on Minot AFB honor all those who served.  To celebrate Veterans Day on November 11th, take a moment to thank our veterans for their service, acknowledging their contributions to our national security!

Later in the month, I hope you’ll attend my on-base family event on November 18th – Healthy Harvest – from 6-8pm at the Bowling Alley on Minot AFB.  This is a wonderful opportunity to have some fun and connect with your family!  There will be a buy-one-game and get-the-second game-free bowling opportunity, gift cards (for those who pre-register via Operation Homefront), food baskets, and an info fair providing healthful resources from local agencies!

Then we end the month with Thanksgiving!  While we enjoy all these events, I hope we all express our gratitude to those who serve our wonderful country and intentionally connect with our young citizens who grow up much too quickly:

Remember Who Matters Most

Mom and Dad, remember me

as you check off your to-dos.

Remember I’m not into that,

but you’re exactly who I choose.

The world’s full of tasks and chores

that occupy your time.

Remember I’m not into that,

but I’ll always call you “mine.”

Your phone’s bright light distracts you so

as it holds your attentive gaze.

Remember I’m not into that,

But you’re exactly who I crave.

Mom and Dad, remember me,

for our time is flying by.

Remember I’ll soon be grown

and you’ll be the one to cry,

“Why wasn’t I into that?”

As our military-connected students transition from school to school and move along with their parents(s)/guardian(s) in the military—bravely serving our country—adults play an important, consistent role.  Enjoy special moments, share thoughts, and connect!
