Making the Most of Rainy Days in Base Housing

Bryndi Hermosillo and Locklyn Hermosillo created a way to have some fun on this rainy day

For nearly five years, Lisa Hermosillo and her family have embraced a special springtime tradition on Minot AFB, celebrating the rain and the puddles that come with it.

“It’s become somewhat of a tradition for us every spring,” Lisa shared. “We have a love of puddles and the rain. This is such a fun and easy activity that gets people in base housing involved.”

What started as a simple way to lift spirits on dreary days has grown into a heartwarming community moment. Rainy days, which can sometimes bring our moods down, have instead become an opportunity for connection and joy.

Even Security Forces joined in on the fun this year, adding to the excitement. Word spread quickly when some photos and videos were shared on the Minot AFB Families Uncensored Facebook page. Lisa’s friend, Crystal Garcia, saw her post and brought her daughter Emily out to join the fun. “She was excited to be out there, too!” Lisa said with a smile.

It just goes to show—rain or shine, it’s all about what we make of it.
