Minot AFB Student Places 6th at State Swim Championship

Peter Wake, a senior at Minot North High School, placed 6th in the 100 breaststroke at the North Dakota High School Activities Association Boys Swim Championship, held in Fargo, March 6th/7th. His placement also garnered him a new personal record of 59.27 seconds. Getting a sub-minute time has been one of Wake’s primary goals this year and what a day to achieve it! Peter also placed 5th in the 200 Medley relay, 9th in the 200 Freestyle Relay, and 16th in the 50 Freestyle. Our Minot boys represented well, and the team took 5th overall.
Peter began his schooling here at North Plains Elementary in Kindergarten and has traveled the world with his family for various military assignments. Last summer the family moved back here to Minot for his senior year and he has thoroughly enjoyed returning to this great community, and swimming with an incredible team of boys and coaches. Wake has been fortunate to have numerous experiences competing on swim teams in England, Japan, Texas, and Mississippi. As the only military child on the team, Peter is proud to represent Minot AFB. After the state championship swim meet, he handed down his swim cap to a younger teammate, a Minot tradition, with a charge to carry-on the winning spirit. After graduation Peter plans to serve a 2-year church mission, then attend BYU to pursue his bachelor’s degree, continuing his pursuit to become a surgeon.
