America’s White Table: Veteran’s Day Ceremony with Col. Lamarand

Last Friday, Colonel Lamarand, 5 BW Commander read America’s White Table” by Margot Theis Raven for North Plains Elementary students and families. This book is a touching children’s book on the significance of the white table as a symbol of remembrance and respect for missing military service members and prisoners of war.

In the story, a young girl learns about the tradition of the white table as her family sets a white table for Veterans Day. Through her family’s explanations and rituals, she discovers the meaning behind each item on the table — the empty chair, the lemon slice, the inverted glass, and more — each representing an aspect of the sacrifice and hardships endured by these service members.

This Veteran’s Day was special at Minot AFB and North Plains Elementary. America’s White Table beautifully honors military traditions, teaching children and families about the importance of remembering and honoring those who have served.
