Will MAFB’s “Military Giving Tuesday” Continue?

You have heard it talked about everywhere. The word has spread thanks to local organizer Carrie Driver. The Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Dec 3, was designated as a special day to give back to the local community in many ways around the base and in town. It was part of a bigger philanthropic event known as “Giving Tuesday”.  Military organizations around the world have adopted this goodwill event and added to it by making military-specific ways to give back. Here on MAFB, this “Military Giving Tuesday” was orchestrated for the first time this year.

While MAFB members and their families stepped up all over the base to help each other out on this unique day a few specific things took place. Carrie Driver told the Northern Sentry that she witnessed people passing out about 60 bags of coffee to Defenders (both at the 5th SFS and the 91st SFG squadrons offices), and that all the coffee had been donated anonymously.

Carrie also mentioned that other specific people helped because they “passed out free cookies to the mom’s and kids at our Coffee & Conversation Group.” She mentioned that others gathered to sign a special commemorative poster board for a child of a fallen Defender.

While these are just a few examples of how people helped each other and supported our small, but special, military community, it was a show of care. The future for such events in years to come depends on the people willing to head up such events, but Carrie Driver insinuated that she would love to be a part of the events for years to come when and if she is still at Minot. So, time will tell if this loving event becomes another annual tradition for MAFB.
