The 91st Security Forces Group and 5th Security Forces Squadron will be teaming up to host their annual Trunk or Treat this year on Wednesday October 30th from 5-8PM. For newcomers to Minot AFB, the 91 SFG has been putting on this event since 2017. The event even found ways to continue during the Covid pandemic, with some modifications. Last year the SFG Trunk or Treat was cancelled at the last minute due to a freak early snowstorm. But this year they are coming back strong!
Technical Sergeant Timothy Rowland with the 91 Missile Security Operations Sqaudron is set to run this year’s event with Technical Sergeant Timothy Driver with 791 Missile Security Forces Squadron and his wife Carrie Driver, who is on the planning board committee as well. After speaking with Mrs. Driver, she said that the SFG Trunk or Treat started as a way for children to have a safe and warm Halloween out of the cold. She went on to mention that now, almost 7 years later, it has created a sense of camaraderie between Defenders since there is a bragging-rights only competition on trunk decorating.

The Trunk or Treat is special for so many reasons, but one of the most important would be their special time for the members on the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP). This year there will be a special time for EFMP members from 4-5PM. Mrs. Driver said, “It is important to our Defenders because we understand the struggles when it comes to events like these, so giving them their own time to be able to come and enjoy themselves is something we felt strongly about providing for them.” The 791 MSFS will also be providing a non-candy treat option at several of the trunks as part of Teal Pumpkin Project. This is another way to give all children a way to enjoy to fun and festivities regardless of allergies or other medical conditions.
This year guests can expect a multitude of fun for the whole family. Not only will there be decorated car trunks from both the 91 SFG and 5 SFS, but there will also be two haunted houses. One haunted house is going to be at the Security Forces building and hosted by the 791 MSFS. The other will be right behind the Security Forces building in the CATM building and is hosted by the 5 SFS. Ms. Driver also said there will be a DJ, a free digital photobooth, which was paid for by the different SFS Booster Clubs, a vendor market set up with some of the Active Duty members and their families showcasing and selling their homemade crafts and baked goods. iMagicon will be joining in on the fun with several cosplayers who will be in attendance and available for pictures.
This event is unique to some of the other Halloween events on Minot AFB because there is collaboration and teamwork from many different squadrons. When asked about why Ms. Driver this is event is important she said, “ I absolutely love community building and love seeing everyone coming together and making events like this one for our families and the base community and giving them something fun and exciting to do!”
She would also like to give a shout-out to 91 SFG True North Chaplains, First Command Bank, iMagicon, as well as several other community partners who have donated candy so far. There is still time to make candy donations as well. For anyone interested in making a donation, bins located outside the Commissary doors, inside all SFS offices, and the HELO Squadron. No matter the weather this is going to be an amazing event. Don’t forget to grab yourself some candy and treats for free at this year’s Trunk or Treat on October 30th.
