Col Jensen Speaks at Memorial Day Service

The morning sun was like a hug from lost loved ones to the large crowd gathered Monday, May 27 at the Veterans Park section of Rosehill Cemetery. Following the cool wet Sunday, everyone was smiling and an air of thankfulness was palatable, thankfulness not just for the beautiful morning, but thankfulness for those who had left this mortal plain after serving to protect, and preserve freedom for their fellow citizens.

U.S. Air Force 1st Lt. Michael O’Keefe, 5th Security Forces Squadron commander’s support staff section commander at Minot AFB, gave a stunning rendition of the National Anthem, prompting many to reach for a tissue. As the entire crowd recited the Pledge of Allegiance, many eyes were being dabbed once again.

It was then time for Colonel Benjamin Jensen, 5th Bomb Wing Deputy Commander to address the crowd. In his sincere, humble address, Col Jensen defined the day, recalling the names of many Minoter’s from the Civil War to the present day that had willingly answered their Country’s call to arms and never returned from the battle field. He recognized those whom he had known personally that had died while training for battle, and those who had answered the call and survived, but have since pasted on to their eternal rest.

Thank you Col Jensen for what was a memorable Memorial Day. Attending services like this builds in our citizens a love of Country, and a respect for those who have sacrificed all to preserve our freedoms.
