The kiddos at North Plains Elementary have been learning all about different genres of music and how they have shaped and influenced the music we hear today. We have explored a wide array of musicians from The Beatles to Odetta Holmes to the King of Pop: Michael Jackson, and the Queen of Tejano Music: Selena Quintanilla.
We have explored different cultures, their positive influences on the world and their contributions to music. Students were excited to learn and explore how genres of music influence one another, and the different instruments that set these genres apart. It was surprising to hear from students that their favorite genres so far are Disco and Tejano (Tex-Mex music).
Nothing will ever beat the sound of your little musicians singing “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees or “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” in Spanish by Selena Quintanilla.
