Minot Symphony Orchestra celebrates 100th season with book reading & signing event. As part of its 100th season celebration, the Minot Symphony Orchestra is hosting a special community event featuring a reading and book signing of The Nodak Do-Re-Mi’s on Saturday, March 14 at 10am at Main Street Books – 8 Main St. South, Minot.

Commissioned by the Minot Symphony Orchestra to commemorate its centennial season, The Nodak Do-Re-Mi’s invites readers of all ages to learn musical terms through a fun and educational North Dakota lens.

“Max captures the heart of North Dakota in everything he creates. The way he connects musical terms to everyday Nodak life makes learning about music feel natural and fun,” said Ellen Fenner, Executive Director of the Minot Symphony Orchestra. “As we celebrate 100 years of music, this collaboration helps us ensure the tradition continues on to the next generation.”

This family-friendly event will feature MSO musician Tim Baumann reading the story aloud, followed by an opportunity for attendees to meet the book’s author/illustrator Max Patzner and have books signed. Copies of Nodak Do-Re-Mi’s will be available for purchase at the event through Main St. Books.

The Nodak Do-Re-Mi’s celebrates music, imagination, and North Dakota pride, making it a perfect introduction to the joy of music for young readers. The event is designed to inspire the next generation of music lovers while honoring the symphony’s century-long tradition of enriching the community through education and live performance.

About the Artist
A proud North Dakota native, Max Patzner describes himself as “a real-life North Dakota artist, writer, and musician.” For over 15 years, Max has performed across the country with his folk-rock band Wild Hands, releasing five studio albums and earning features on Paste Magazine’s Daytrotter sessions and Prairie Public Television.
Max published his first children’s book, Wild & The Animal Band, in 2020 and has since written several North Dakota-inspired titles. Beyond the page, Max’s vibrant murals can be found throughout Minot and across the state, including the Minot Symphony Orchestra’s own mural, painted in the fall of 2025 in downtown Minot.
Families are encouraged to attend for a cozy morning of storytelling, creativity, and connection. The event is free and open to the public.
