Col John Burrell commander of the 5th Operations Group at Minot Air Force Base was the featured speaker at the January meeting of the Jones Chapter 135 Air and Space Forces Association meeting.
Col Burrell outlined the activities of the 23rd and 69th Bomb Squadrons, which affects the 5th Operations Group activities, too.
“There were a lot of scenarios that we had to take head on and make work” according to Burrell. He outlined how the 5th BW was in the middle of an intense Global Thunder exercise and then had to generate and support a Bomber Task force that would take and entire squadron of B 52’s away from Minot Air Force Base. “We not only did it, but we did it very successfully according to Burrell.
In addition to Col Burrell, George Masters reviewed the timelines for the upcoming Commander’s Choice Awards that will be held on April 9th. According to Masters “our guest speaker is Air and Space Forces President Burt Field, USAF Lt. General (retired)” said Masters.
The event will be held at the Jimmy Doolittle Center on base. “We are trying extremely hard to get organizations like the Minot Chamber of Commerce and the Military Affairs Committee involved in the banquet. We are also inviting all of the Honorary Commanders to attend. We only have room for 200, but we do want to fill the JDL and show these recipients how special they are” said Masters.
