The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction (NDDPI) —in collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services—recently published a children’s book titled “Building Literacy Skills.” This is a Legendary Family Learning Guide that follows Theo Bison on his first day of Kindergarten and provides readers with an in-depth look on expectations for this milestone, as well as, tips and tricks to increase literacy skills. The book is funded by the Comprehensive Literacy State Development grant fund and is available free throughout North Dakota. The hope is that all children will enter school with a strong foundation of familiar literacy experiences – setting them up to become confident learners with a greater chance of success in school and life.
Ms. Bryn Iverson, Minot Public Schools’ Elementary Assistant Superintendent, gave me my very first copy and once read, I was impressed with the book’s jam-packed literacy tips, character’s enthusiasm for reading, and endorsement for rhyme (32)!
