
The 742nd Missile Squadron is integral to sustaining America’s strategic deterrence mission. Responsible for the operation and security of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile, the squadron oversees 5 missile alert facilities and 50 launch sites across an 8,500 square-mile area. 742nd Airmen, from missileers to facility managers, work tirelessly to maintain the nation’s most critical defense mission, leveraging their technical expertise and dedication around the clock.
As part of Air Force Global Strike Command, the 742nd provides a credible and reliable nuclear deterrent, reassuring allies and deterring adversaries globally. Their mission extends beyond maintaining the Minuteman III, demonstrating the discipline, precision, and commitment required to uphold America’s most solemn responsibility. Recently, the squadron dominated in the 91st Operations Group Roughrider Operations Competition, earning 1st place and securing the Schlabach Trophy. The competition included testing for Facility Managers, Missile Combat crew members, and Missile Procedure Training (MPT) rides. Additionally, the 742 Missile Squadron was crucial in supporting Exercise GLOBAL THUNDER 2026, directing the Crisis Action Team for the 91st Missile Wing and simultaneously taking part in Exercise BULLY VIGILANCE 25 2, showcasing the discipline, precision, and readiness that keep America’s deterrent a cornerstone of national security.
