Sharon and Milt Knarreborg have been running Sharon’s Country Market “for quite some time, I really can’t remember exactly how long.” Her entry into the business of selling farm raised chickens and bacon, and later on beef pot pies, got started when she inquired at a local business, Magic City Hatchery, where they would ship a lot of their live chicks every spring. “They were closing and I just wanted to see where they were going” said Sharon “I found out that there was a Hutterite Colony near Milnor, North Dakota, ordering a lot of chickens” and so her next contact would be there.
“A Hutterite Colony usually numbers around 100, and the challenge is to keep them all employed” says Milt. In the case of the Sundale Colony near Milnor, there have a number of other interests including selling whole hogs to customers. “For $500.00, a customer can get a half a hog cut, wrapped and delivered to Minot” Sharon shares “That goes along with the chickens (sometimes up to 1,200 per trip), bacon and pot pies.”
The Sundale Colony also has a complete butcher shop and feed distribution center. “Their butcher shop is cutting edge” according to Milt.
The best way to take advantage of the Sundale products sold by Sharon and Milt, is to get on their mailing list. Send us an email (sknarreborg47@gmail.com) and let us know you are interested. We’ll be sending out emails soon for an order coming up this spring” says Sharon.
