Creating Memories: One Creations at a Time

A couple of weeks ago, my son and I ventured downtown to one of our favorite places, Margie’s Art Glass Studio. We love to stop in and paint a new ceramic piece at the Ceramics Cafe. It’s been a cherished tradition of ours for many years. You see, my son is 23 years old, and for him to still want to visit Margie’s with his mom, it must be an extra special place.

His creative process has changed over the years, but the time spent together remains just as meaningful. When we stopped by two Saturdays ago, the place was bustling with birthday parties and small groups of people painting their creations. Several staff members were on hand, helping people in the party rooms and offering assistance to everyone with questions.

If you’re visiting Margie’s for the first time, a staff member will guide you through the process, helping you select your piece, prep it, choose your paints, and get it looking just right. If you’re old-timers like us, they’ll let you dive right in and get to work.

Opened in 2004, Margie’s Art Glass is more than just a store in downtown Minot, it’s a gathering place. The moment you walk through the door, you feel like you’re being wrapped in a warm hug. The walls are lined with colorful pottery and stained glass pieces, perfect for gifting or finding something that speaks to you.

The eclectic mix of vintage and modern makes the space feel both intimate and inspiring. Creativity seems to flow the moment you step inside. And if you want to learn more about downtown Minot, Margie herself is the go-to for local history. You just never know what you’ll discover during a visit.

But that’s not all, Margie’s also offers stained glass supplies and classes where you can learn the art of stained glass. Occasionally, they even host painting classes. Class offerings are displayed in the store, or you can check their website at www.margiesartglass.com to stay updated on current events and offerings.

Another reason we love Margie’s? You can grab a drink from Black Iguana, located right on the main level when you walk in. They offer a wide variety of tasty drinks from lattes to Big Trains and plenty of non-coffee options too. You can even grab a sweet treat to enjoy while you paint. And if you’re not sticking around, you can get your drink to go. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better coffee in town.
Margie’s is located in the heart of the city at 109 Main St S. Their hours are:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays: 10:30 AM – 8:30 PM
  • Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays: 10:30 AM – 5:30 PM
It’s truly worth a stop at Margie’s for an experience that will create memories to last a lifetime. You don’t need to be a skilled painter or crafter to create something beautiful. If it doesn’t turn out exactly as you imagined, it will still be a favorite because of the time spent creating it. Especially when you are surrounded with friends and family who make the experience extra special.
