Making Waves: Winter Fun Awaits at the Indoor Pool

It might be getting cold outside but don’t put away your swimsuit yet! The Outdoor Recreation Center has officially opened its Indoor Pool, located within the McAdoo Fitness Center, providing a much-needed recreational option for base personnel and their families during the winter months. Given North Dakota’s frigid temperatures, outdoor swimming becomes impractical, making this facility a welcome addition for those looking to maintain their aquatic activities.

The indoor pool is designed to cater to a variety of swimming needs. Whether you are a lap swim enthusiast or just want to jump in the pool and have some fun. The indoor pool configuration allows patrons to enjoy the water simultaneously, enhancing the overall experience for all types of swimmers. For those interested in lap swimming, the pool offers two designated lanes on a first-come, first-served basis. The free swim area has a basketball hoop, a small slide and a 25 meter area to swim and enjoy the water.

Want to get your children out of the house this winter, let the indoor pool be the place to be this winter. Access to the pool is open to individuals of all ages, although there is an important policy in place for younger swimmers. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Bring the kids, let them have some fun, burn some energy and make some great memories. According to Mrs. Kailey Cisneros, the Aquatics Director at Minot AFB, “No special events such as parties can currently be hosted at the indoor pool but the possibility is under consideration for the future”. The management recognizes the potential for the pool to serve as a vibrant community space for celebrations and gatherings, which could further enrich the recreational offerings at the base.

Lifeguards will be on duty during the pool’s operating hours, which are from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Tuesday through Friday, and 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturdays. Lifeguards must be on duty in order to open the indoor pool and may be closed if one is not available. It is important to note that the indoor pool will be closed on Sundays, Mondays, and all federal holidays.
The opening of the Indoor Pool at the McAdoo Fitness Center is expected to enhance the quality of life for Minot Air Force Base personnel and their families, providing a safe haven for aquatic activities year-round. As the facility evolves, it promises to become a key resource for health, fitness, and family recreation within the community.
