You’ve all seen it, and heard it referred to by many names. But it is that humongous, white, plasticky-looking bubble dome covering the track and field next to the McAdoo Fitness Center.
This dome is rumored to be an all-seasons covering, allowing residents to utilize certain gym facilities even during the brutal winter months. The dome project, for lack of an official name, has been in the works for about 10 years. A similar type of bubble dome exists over at Herb Parker Stadium at Minot State University, so it is evident this type of covering can and does work in the North Dakota climate.
However, while the “dome” is a new and unmissable feature to Minot AFB, what is missing is the answers to when it will be functional, how residents can utilize the area and what kind of regulations will fit into it?
The Northern Sentry reached out to get answers from McAdoo Fitness Center Manager, Russell Bockman. While Mr. Bockman confirmed that the goal of the dome is to be open in late October, he also said that there are still several particulars that are still trying to be figured out, so they are not ready to release information to the public yet. He did mention that the dome will come with a set of rule regulations similar to the after hours rules at the McAdoo Fitness Center and we can all look forward to a large official open house event in the next few months.
While not much information is available just yet, we do know that the opening of the “dome” will not affect the hours or uses of the Turf building, which will remain open. Mr. Bockman assured the Northern Sentry that any information regarding the “dome”, including the announcement of the official name, will be coming out in due time.
