On Aug. 9, 2024, the Minot Air Force Base School Liaison Office will lead and partner with national nonprofit Operation Homefront to host their annual Back to School Brigade at the Minot AFB Youth Center. The event offers free resources and support to military connected families as children are heading back to school, which can be a hectic (and expensive) time of year.
There are currently upwards of 30 agencies expected to be in attendance this year. According to Smith, this is an increase from previous years. This is a great time to tap into what Minot and Minot AFB has to offer students and families stationed at Minot Air Force Base. The event will welcome the Minot North High School Cheerleading team as well as the Minot Air Force Recruiting Team. Free vision screenings will be conducted by Minot Lion’s Club, as a great service for students and families. In addition, this is a great opportunity for students and families to meet the leadership of Glenburn School District, Minot AFB Schools, and STARBASE North Dakota. The Red Cross of North Dakota and Minnesota are also expected to be in attendance to provide disaster response workshops for students and families.
Registration for the Operation Homefront Back-to-School Brigade at the Minot AFB is open. Students receive a backpack and school supplies just in time for the school year. Quantities are limited. Please register through Operation Homefront QR Code by August 2nd. If there are any questions or concerns, please reach to Joy-Nicole Smith, School Liaison Program Manager at 701-723-1447.
