Operation Homefront: Back to School Supplies Brigade

On Aug. 9, 2024, the Minot Air Force Base School Liaison Office will lead and partner with national nonprofit Operation Homefront to host their annual Back to School Brigade at the Minot AFB Youth Center. The event offers free resources and support to military connected families as children are heading back to school, which can be a hectic (and expensive) time of year.

“The amount of backpacks anticipated this year are 180+ filled with supplies from Operation Homefront and Scheels. However, it does not stop there, we are thrilled for a large donation of school supplies from Minot AFB Homes and other partners from the community.”

JOy Nicole Smith School Liason Program Manager

There are currently upwards of 30 agencies expected to be in attendance this year. According to Smith, this is an increase from previous years. This is a great time to tap into what Minot and Minot AFB has to offer students and families stationed at Minot Air Force Base. The event will welcome the Minot North High School Cheerleading team as well as the Minot Air Force Recruiting Team. Free vision screenings will be conducted by Minot Lion’s Club, as a great service for students and families. In addition, this is a great opportunity for students and families to meet the leadership of Glenburn School District, Minot AFB Schools, and STARBASE North Dakota. The Red Cross of North Dakota and Minnesota are also expected to be in attendance to provide disaster response workshops for students and families.

“This event is open to ALL of our Minot AFB Airmen, students, and families. The resources presented are valuable for all stakeholders to tap into. This is an all-out effort to ensure every student and family is able to begin the school year successfully. It is also a way for the Minot and Minot AFB community to show support for our military connected students and families.”
