Wendy Keller Announces Upcoming Retirement

Wendy Keller, Executive Director at the Magic City Discovery Center, has announced her upcoming retirement. Keller was a pivotal force behind the success and growth of the Discovery Center.

Wendy’s journey with the Magic City Discovery Center began as a member of Give 360, the group that conceived the idea of opening a children’s museum and science center in Minot. As a founding board member, Wendy helped to establish the Children’s Museum of Minot Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2014.

In collaboration with Dakota Territory Air Museum, an interim location was opened for four winters where Wendy served as Museum Manager for three of them before being hired full-time in 2017. Wendy played a crucial role in securing grants from the Department of Defense and the state of North Dakota along with approximately $8 million in funds from local citizens, companies, and organizations.

During her seven years at the Magic City Discovery Center, Wendy was nominated for Emerging Leader of the Year and Leader of the Year through the Alliance of Nonprofits. The Discovery Center was also honored as Organization of the Year in 2023.

Reflecting on her time at the Discovery Center, Wendy remarked, “It has been a long road to get here, but it was totally worth it. I am so proud of what our passionate little group and community supporters have achieved. I have treasured my time at MCDC, but I look forward to relaxation, travel, getting caught up with projects, and having a personal life again in 2025.”
Praising Wendy’s contributions, Board President, Dave Schwengler, stated, “After more than a decade of dedicated service as first a founding Board Member and then serving as our Executive Director, Wendy leaves behind a profound legacy. She played a pivotal role in establishing our children’s museum, demonstrating steadfast leadership and a deep commitment to enriching the lives of young people.”

The Board of Directors will soon commence a search for a new Executive Director to lead the Center into its next chapter and continue its mission to inspire creativity, encourage play, and enhance education.
