Minot’s search and rescue team, Civil Air Patrol Magic City Composite Squadron, opened their doors to prospective new members this past Saturday at Avflight, 2400 N Broadway. New visitors came from various backgrounds including aviation enthusiasts, AFJROTC cadets, pilots, and emergency management professionals.

The squadron is looking to expand its number of trained staff and be better positioned to find those who are lost and respond when the community is in need.

The squadron assigned aircraft, drone, emergency equipment, and educational materials were on display. Over a dozen members volunteered to share CAP’s mission and their personal experiences. Several teens were interested in joining for the opportunity to serve their community in case of emergency, fly with CAP, and join an exciting team.

Adult leaders for the cadet program have a dedicated lesson plan starting for news members this Tuesday evening, 6:30 at Avflight. This will allow the whole group to complete their initial training quickly and participate in emergency training at the first opportunity – though anyone aged 12 and over is welcome join their first meeting anytime in the year.

Contact squadron commander, Maj. Jeffrey Slocum at 701-360-5948 jeffrey.slocum@ndwg.cap.gov or stop by any Tuesday evening meeting to find out how to get involved with and/or join CAP.
