Nestled into the northeast corner of 21 Central Ave E. in downtown Minot is a business that focuses on providing entertainment and empowerment for ages 21 and over. It is called Up Your Axe and it is sure to become your new favorite hang out. Owners, Matthew Maldonado and Eric Theomke, opened the axe throwing entertainment bar in 2021 with Cole Anderson as manager. The idea came about when Anderson visited an axe throwing venue in Ohio and was immediately hooked. He brought the vision to Maldonado and Theomke, who also had experienced axe throwing venues and the three year process of planning began.
If you have never tried axe throwing before, you will love the feeling of empowerment that comes with throwing your first axe and it will likely keep you returning to throw again and again. Anderson said that it is very common for people to stop in on a date night for something different to do and then the couples come back week after week. It is a great place to meet new friends, go on a first date, or for a birthday.
When you visit Up Your Axe, you will likely meet Cole, who will train you in the art of axe throwing, chat for a while, and make you feel completely welcome. You may even talk him into showing you how he can throw everything from a shovel to a paint scraper and a saw blade to a throwing star. As a Norwegian by heritage, he likens axe throwing to Viking heritage. The passion he exudes about the art of throwing is clearly evident and he truly loves the business. You will feel that excitement the minute you walk in the door.
Up Your Axe offers a variety of leagues including couples, competitive, military, womens, and co-ed. These are offered on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, with the military league on Thursdays.
