Avoid the summer slide with Tutor.com

Written by: Joy-Nicole Smith

It is summer and the weather provides ample opportunity to be outdoors! Our K-12 Minot AFB students and families are actively involved in activities in and around the Minot area. However, there is an incredible resource at our finger tips to keep students academically engaged to combat the impact of the “summer slide.” This resource is Tutor.com.
Tutor.com provides free, around-the-clock help for military-connected students, covering topics in all core subjects and all skill levels. Students can use any internet-capable device to connect with an expert tutor right away or to schedule a future session; they can also submit documents for an offline review and will get comments back within 24 hours!
Tutoring sessions are anonymous and take place in a secure online classroom where no personal information is shared. Each of the 3,000 tutors are carefully screened subject matter experts that complete a rigorous application process and background check.
As of recently, tutor.com has begun to offer Parent Coaching sessions in response to the pandemic and the stress it has causes families. Parent Coaching topics include: Scheduling & Organization, Setting Expectations, Study Techniques, Using Resources, Motivation & Goals, Managing Knowledge Gaps, and Finding Balance.
Additionally, tutor.com is free for military-connected students of all ages from kindergarten through college so military parents who are returning to school can also use this service.
Let’s “slide” our students into an academic school year prepared for the challenges ahead! For more information about tutor.com or to sign up for access, visit: military.tutor.com.
