SUMMARY:Artists After Hours ft. Pamyua – Yup’ik, Alaska
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special World Fest edition of Artists After Hours, featuring Yup’ik ensemble Pamyua!\nPamyua is Alaska’s most famous Inuit band. Founded in 1995 by brothers Phillip and Stephen Blanchett, the group includes Ossie Kairaiuak and frequent guest member Karina Moeller. Their performances honor and share indigenous Inuit cultural traditions through ceremony and songs passed down through generations. Their unique performances blend traditional Inuit drum/dance melodies with contemporary R&B and soul music, often referred to as “tribal funk” or “Inuit soul.”\nMeet Pamya! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTCW9CCn3Js\nJoin us in the Carnegie Center for an evening of live, collaborative music and art! The evening will start out with a workshop/performance from Pamyua, followed by an opportunity for open mic/jam. (BYO instruments!) We’ll have a Community Canvas available, as well as paints and other art-making supplies.\nArtists After Hours are unique, inclusive events centered on expressing a shared passion for creating art and community!\n-AAH events are all-ages, EVERYONE is welcome!\n-Cash bar and MACA popcorn will be available.\n-Donation-based cover at the door.\nAbout Artists After Hours:\nIn the spring of 2022, we began hosting Artists After Hours events at the Carnegie Center in Downtown Minot. These events are intended to provide networking opportunities and a social environment for Minot creatives to gather in order to share their works and practice-insights, and to collaborate on music, visual arts, written works, etc.\nOur goal for this program is to strengthen and support the Minot arts collective by providing local creatives access to a supportive network of individuals, working within the sector, who possess a range of interests and expertise.\n\nAbout Arts Midwest World Fest:\nSince 2003, Arts Midwest World Fest has been offering small Midwest communities once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to learn about the world from musicians inside and outside the US. This year, Arts Midwest continues with tours from three global music ensembles to nine states.\nA program of Arts Midwest, the 2023 World Fest artist tours are generously supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies, and North Dakota Council on the Arts.\n
