Connecting with others isn’t always easy. What is supposed to be a fun experience can sometimes feel more like a daunting task. Having lived in numerous cities and states, and having been stationed at three different bases, the themes of connection and isolation frequently cross my mind. I often find myself wondering: Where do I find my people? Should I venture out alone to make new friends? How many questions do I have to ask just to figure out if we click?

While it is a personal passion of mine to help people build a community and find where they belong, it also aligns with the Base vision – mission. Connecting people, our members, and families, so that no one feels they are isolated or left alone. That is exactly what the upcoming Hobby Fair is all about—a dedicated spot to find your people.
This fantastic event will bring together local community members and Airmen who are passionate experts in their craft, providing a space to connect with those who share your interests. We will feature over 60 hobbies, ranging from fitness, wellness, and outdoor adventure to creative arts, social gaming, practical life skills, and motorsports. We will also host local volunteer organizations, base helping agencies, and Chapel programs and teams, ensuring there is a place for absolutely everyone to plug in.
At a minimum, two takeaways can come out of attending: you can meet a fellow Airman or community member who shares your interests, and you can discover resources that will fuel your passions.
This base-wide event is also designed to foster fun for spouses and children. Whether it’s enjoying a musical jam session, playing in the bouncy houses, getting faces painted, networking with other spouses, or grabbing a bite from our food trucks, this is an event you won’t want to miss.
This Hobby Fair is for you. Moving and starting over in a new community is challenging, but my goal is for everyone at Team Minot to make lasting connections. I want you to eventually leave here saying that Minot had a lot to offer and truly felt like home during your time here.
